Healing Hurts, But It Makes Us Stronger: A Therapist’s Reflection

Hi, and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a therapist dedicated to supporting individuals as they navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and always centred on your unique needs. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Let me say it plainly: I believe we all need therapy.

Life is hard — and at some point, each of us will struggle. Sometimes the struggle is brief; sometimes it stretches on. But no matter how much we want to, we cannot be superheroes. We are human, and things affect us.

In the book Burnout by Amelia and Emily Nagoski, they compare emotional healing to recovering from a broken leg. Even as the bone mends, there’s still pain. The pain eventually fades, but the healing process itself can hurt. Therapy works the same way. It’s not a quick fix; it’s a process that takes time and effort.

As Sonia Sotomayor reminds us:

“There are uses to adversity, and they don’t reveal themselves until tested. Whether it’s serious illness, financial hardship, or the simple constraint of limited resources, difficulty can tap unexpected strengths.”

Therapy helps us tap into that unexpected strength. Seeking support is not a sign of weakness — it’s a commitment to coping better, growing stronger, becoming healthier, and rediscovering joy.

That said, therapy is not always easy. Please know that you may feel vulnerable as we work together. But I want you to hear this clearly: I will do my best to create a safe, supportive space for you.

Here’s what I can promise:

  • You will receive tools to help you cope.
  • We will only explore topics you feel ready to discuss.
  • We will check in regularly to make sure you feel comfortable.
  • You will set the priorities for each session — you will be in the driver’s seat.

As your therapist, I’ll be alongside you on this journey, gently guiding when it’s time to turn, pause, or move forward. You won’t be alone in the process.

If you’re wondering whether therapy is right for you, I invite you to reach out. I offer a free 15-minute consultation where we can talk about your needs and see if we’re a good fit.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Together, we can build a path toward healing, growth, and resilience.
